Team India continues to celebrate its tremendous performance Down Under, where it tamed Australia to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It was a historical performance, as India became the first Asian team to win successive Test series in Australia.

While India did celebrate profoundly, there was a reported instance when Rahane was given a cake in the shape of a kangaroo at home and was asked to cut it. However, Rahane denied doing so, to mark respect to the opponents.

Explaining the same to Harsha Bhogle, Rahane said, “Kangaroo is their national animal. I don’t want to do that. You give your opposition respect, you treat them well, even if you win or even if you create history. You have to have respect for your opponent and other countries. That is why I took the decision against cutting the cake with a kangaroo on it.”

Rahane further spoke on the plan India went ahead on the final day of the Brisbane Test. “Roles were completely clear... just backing their own individual game. I remember when Pujara was batting and I walked in, I told him you just play the way you like, you play your normal game. I am just going to attack and play positive cricket. If I can 30-40 quick runs here, we have a game in hand. Because I was thinking in my head that if we have to get 140-160 runs in 38-40 overs, we have the game in our hands,” he explained.

Upon being questioned if it hurts to resume as a player, with Virat Kohli back as the captain, Rahane asserted, “That phase is over and I am no longer the captain. I am focusing on the Test match against England now. Whatever happened, that’s history now, that’s gone. So, let’s move on and focus on our next assignment.”

Rahane shared the video of the entire conversation with Bhogle on his Facebook page, captioned, “Whatever happened is history, the next series is my only focus now.” Watch it here:
