Claiming to have heard Gods call three women in AP hang selves

It is suspected that three women of a family near Kakinada in East Godavari district, AP, committed suicide because they were answering a divine call.

Three women, including an 18-year-old were found dead in their house. Neighbours and sources have been reported to have said that  Rasamsetty Satyaveni, 48, her sister Sathi Dhanalakshmi, 45, and Dhanalakshmi’s daughter Vaishnavi Devi, 18, were recent converts to Christianity and such was their devotion, that morning and evening the trio were seen offering prayers and singing hymns of praise.

No trigger for the suicide has been found as yet. However, investigation revealed that on Sunday after celebrating Dhanalakshmi’s son Raghuveer’s birthday in church, there was some discussion on life and resurrection and God. Deccan Chronicle reported that on Monday morning the two sisters told their mother that they would be in their rooms praying to god to ward off evil forces.

It was Raghuveer who discovered the tragic deaths of his mother, aunt and sister. Unable to get a response even after knocking repeatedly, he was forced to break open the door and saw the two sisters hanging from a beam on the roof and his own sister hanging limp from a ceiling fan. He instantly informed the village pastor about the deaths and then the police.

Further a report in the New Indian Express says that the women had been quoted by their neighbours as telling them that ‘God had been summoning them and that they wanted to leave the world of sinners.’

A case has been registered and investigation is under progress.
