Third Scorpene class submarine INS Karanj set to join Navy
The delivery of diesel-electric attack submarine reaffirms India's membership in the exclusive group of submarine building nations. Three more such submarines are under development and sea trials phase and these include INS Vela, INS Vagir and INS Vagsheer.
Third Scorpene-class submarine of project P-75 INS Karanj will be commissioned into the Indian Navy on March 10 in Mumbai. In 2017, the Indian Navy inducted the first scorpene-class submarine INS Kalavari while the INS Khanderi was commissioned in September 2019.
INS Karanj sailed for over 100 days as part of the trials before being commissioned. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited-built INS Karanj has advanced stealth and combat capabilities.

While the first two are undergoing sea trials, INS Vagsheer is still under development. Scorpene-class submarines are a key asset for the Navy as they can undertake anti-surface as well as anti-submarine warfare missions.
