The new strain of Coronavirus, which initially emerged in the United Kingdom, has officially been confirmed in India.

Six people who returned to India from the United Kingdom recently have tested positive for the new strain of the virus.

While three of these cases have been detected in Bengaluru, two have been confirmed in Hyderabad and one in Pune.

The new variant named 'VUI -- 202012/01' is up to 70 per cent more transmissible than the old variant.
