AP to freeze-frame on June 2 to pledge itself to new beginnings

naidu state formation day pledge

The Andhra Pradesh government today notified that every citizen of the state should participate in Navanirmana Deeksha (pledge) - wherever he or she is- whether they are on the road, home, college and factory or in a farm on June 2, the state formation day.

Andhra Pradesh in its present form came into existence on June 2, 2014 following the bifurcation of erstwhile AP. The pledge-taking ritual will be observed every year from this year onwards. The people have been asked suspend their activities during the time notified for the pledge at 11 am.

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu will administer the pledge at Vijayawada, the temporary capital of Andhra Pradesh, to a huge gathering.

“Throughout the State, everything will come to a standstill at that time and people -- wherever they are -- shall stop whatever they are doing and take the pledge.

“People should take the pledge themselves by reading the text of the pledge distributed in advance. Even in the residential houses, the head of the families should take the initiative to administer the pledge to the entire family members present,” said Lingaraju Panigrahi, special chief secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The government has decided to observe Navanirmana Week from June 2 June to June 8, 2016. The programme of the Navanirmana Week will be launched by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu with the pledge at 11.00 am at Vijayawada.

At the district levels, the district administrations will organise public meetings and the chief minister’s speech and pledge will be broadcast live. The district collectors will ensure that copies of the pledge are printed and made available to all the people.

There are also five debates that the people of the state have been asked to participate in during the week. The subject of the debate on June 3 would be "The effect of unilateral and unscientific division of the State on the State". On June 4, the people of the state have been asked to assess the “Achievement made by the people and administration in last two years for development of the State despite adversity due to unscientific division.”

The subjects for June 5, June 6 and June 7 are ‘Achievement, future plan way forward and programmes on development of agriculture and allied sectors”, “Industries, Services, Regulatory Sector achievement plans, programmes for growth” and “Welfare and development initiative in the last 2 years and future perspective plan and programs” respectively.

On June 8, all programmes will culminate in Mahasankalpam at Rajahmundry/Kakinada/Eluru, where the chief minister will address a massive public meeting organised by the state government.

As for temporary capital Vijayawada, from June 3 to June 7, programmes will be conducted at the local convention centre with 10,000 people to observe the week with debates and speeches on the subjects decided by the state government.
