Kalabhavan Mani's celebrity friends may face polygraph test
As the mystery over the 'unatural death' of Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani remains to be solved, even after a lapse of more than three months now, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is mulling polygraph test on his friends including film personalities who partied with him on the eve of his death.
Mani’s brother RLV Ramakrishnan had alleged 'foul play' in the actor's death and had raised allegations against Malayalam actors-comedians Sabumon and Jaffer Idukki who allegedly joined a booze party with the deceased on the night before his death. The police had earlier quizzed the actors in connection with the case.
The SIT is trying to find out the reason behind the presence of methyl alcohol in Mani's body and hope that his friends who were with him on the night before his death could throw some light on the puzzle. Recent tests at Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad had found traces of methyl alcohol in the actor's blood samples. It contradicted another forensic lab report from Kochi that indicated the presence of chlorpyrifos, a toxic pesticide in Mani's viscera sample. The confusion in lab reports and the statements of his friends that they did not have liquor during their meeting with Mani at his farm house in Chalakkudy.
The 45-year-old actor, who played in versatile roles in South Indian films, was found in a serious condition at his farmhouse at Chalakudy, and though he was rushed to Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, he breathed his last on 6 March.
On 11 June , Mani family had met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and demanded a CBI enquiry into the death. Though the state government had agreed to the request, an official order is yet to be released in this regard.
