A PIL filed by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MP and Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF) seeking accountability from officers in the light of the ongoing demolitions was listed today in the Karnataka High Court.
The court directed that the NBF make a representation to the Chief Secretary, Govt of Karnataka to arrive at a mechanism for the prosecution of officials and builders, with the list of various offences.
“This is the first big step of a clean-up process of our cities, bureaucracy and governance. I reiterate that I will not rest till guilty government officials are identified and punished,” Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MP said.
Meanwhile, citizens residing in areas affected by the recent BBMP demolitions joined the Namma Bengaluru Foundation in raising their voice against builders and officials who sanctioned numerous projects on stormwater drains.
Hundreds of residents from Doddabommasandra, Yelahanka, Attur, Ramchandrapura village, Thindlu, Thirumenahalli, Hebbal Sarovar Layout and Chokkanahalli approached the NBF to report illegalities and irregularities in the demolitions to the Namma Bengaluru Citizens Committee.
The citizens and NBF also signed a petition to chief minister Siddaramaiah, demanding:
1. No double standards in demolishing illegal constructions, where wealthy and well connected are excluded.
2. Compensation on Humanitarian grounds to the victims and the displaced who have homes with BBMP plan approvals.
3. Prosecution without exception of All Guilty Government Officials and Erring Builders under all relevant sections of all Laws Violated.
