Canteen staff beaten Kerala P C George MLA

In a serious allegation, an employee of MLA hostel canteen in Thiruvananthapuram said that he was assaulted by P C George MLA the lone independent legislator in Kerala Assembly, after delivery of lunch was delayed by 20 minutes. The police registered a case based on the complaint filed by Manu, the canteen employee who raised the allegation.

However, George denied the allegation and said he only scolded the employee as he was late to bring the food. "He was late by 40 minutes in delivering the meal. I did not beat him, and nobody would believe him," George, the whip in the previous government and an ex-member of Kerala Government (M) said.

The alleged incident happened on Monday afternoon after the legislator ordered lunch to his room in MLA Hostel. Manu, an employee of the hostel run by Kudumbashree, said there was some delay in delivering the meal as he was busy at the canteen. He said the legislator and his personal assistant thrashed him during a heated exchange of words. He alleged that the MLA slapped him on the face and he has suffered injuries on lips and eyes. He has sought treatment at a hospital.

"When I reached the room, the MLA was abusing some one over the phone. He disconnected the call when he saw me. Though I tried to explain why the food delivery was delayed, he showered abuses at me and thrashed me on my face. His private assistant joined him and beat me before the driver stopped them. The driver asked me to get out of there," Manu said.

George said he did not beat the guy but only scolded him. "The guy had got meals for four persons. I scolded him, and he did not like it. I did not assault him and only told to make his deliveries at the earliest," George said. He also said he would write to Assembly speaker on the issue.

Meanwhile, Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan said he had not received any written complaint on the issue.
