A couple from Chittor distrct in Andhra Pradesh have approached a local court requesting permission to give passive euthanasia to their ailing eight-month-old baby girl.

The parents of the child have told the court that they lack the financial resource to take care of their ailing daughter and they can no longer see her suffer.
According to a Bangalore Mirror report, the eight-month-old baby - Gnana Sai - suffers from congenital liver problems. The child keeps crying out in pain and the parents claim that they do not have enough to money complete her treatment.
The couple told the court that they have exhausted all their resources. The parents require around ₹50 lakh for the child's treatment and even after the liver transplantation, she will have to be kept on medication for six years at least, the report said.
“Please direct the government to help us save her or grant us permission to give her passive euthanasia,“ they pleaded with the court.
The father of the child, Ramappa works in a local grocery shop and the couple lives in a rent house near Bathalapuram railway gate in Nuthalacheruvu block.
Passive euthanasia was legalised in India on March 7, 2011 by the Supreme Court. A legalised passive euthanasia involves the withdrawing of treatment or food that would allow the patient to live.
