After by the havoc created by a Ugandan student in the city on Monday, the Bengaluru Police have taken an initiative to deport foreigners who are staying past their visa expiration.

“Presently 8000 African citizens are staying in Bengaluru for academic, medical treatment, employment and other reasons. Out of them, 600 African nationals have overstayed their visa limit. We’ve taken an initiative to find them and deport them,” said CCB Additional Commissioner KV Sharat Chandra.
The police have approached the Foreigners Regional Registration Office who will be contacting the concerned embassies on this matter.
The African embassy has criticised the Bengaluru police for tying up the Ugandan national Maria with ropes who was allegedly misbehaving in public on Monday afternoon.
“Even if she has misbehaved in a public place, tying her with ropes is inhuman. Who gave permission to the police to handle people like this?” the embassy questioned.
The police, in its explanation to the embassy, said that it was the public who tied her with ropes. According to the police, Maria was drunk and her behaviour was uncontrollable. She allegedly bit an autorickshaw driver and also the policemen.
The police have also clarified that they had called for a lady policemen to control her. Maria's hands were injured as she broke the glass showcase in a store with her bare hands.
NIMHANS doctors confirmed Maria's condition as stable. According to hospital sources, Maria apologised to the police and the doctors for her conduct.
During police interrogation, Maria had claimed to be a student of Reva college. However, the college management committee denied Maria's claim.
