Amidst Covid spread in South Asian countries, Oman announced that it has banned passenger flights from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and over a dozen other countries. The reason for the indefinite suspension is after the gulf nation reported 1,675 new Covid cases.
After over 1,500 new Covid cases were reported from Oman, the government took an immediate decision to ban passenger flights from 24 countries including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh with immediate effect.
"Arrivals from 23 countries to the Sultanate have been suspended until further notice, in order to preserve the safety of everyone and to prevent the spread of COVID-19. These countries are: Tunisia, United Kingdom, Brunei, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Iran, Argentina, Brazil, Sudan, Iraq, Philippines, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Federal Tanzania, Republic of South Africa, Singapore, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Guinea, Colombia, Nigeria and Libya," a statement was attributed to Oman's Government Communication Centre as per a media report.
The decision by the government comes after its health ministry reported 1,675 fresh cases of novel coronavirus.
The country is also closely monitoring Covid and its variants trend in Asian countries as well western countries like the UK and US. Hence to prevent such a situation, a ban of passenger aircrafts from these countries has been placed.
