After the dreaded Blue Whale suicide game, a new online game that’s been causing a great deal of controversy on social networking sites. And it is called Mariam.

The game was created on July 25, 2017 and has gripped the Middle East.

The game is based on a story. The story revolves around a child lost in the forest and asks players to help her find her way back home.

While the game is filled with frightening audio and visual sound effects, players are asked a series of personal questions as they accompany the little girl home.

The players are asked the location of their home, questions on their Facebook account and according to the Gulf News, a question about the Qatar crisis as well.

Experts have pointed out that it pushes the child or a teenager to hurt oneself.

Colonel Obaid Saleh Hassan, an IT specialist at Sharjah Police, said that the data and information required in the game may be used by other parties for phishing, theft, or extortion.

He also urged parents to monitor in their children’s activities

The Khaleej Times quoted the owner of the account developer of Maryam, Salman al-Harbi saying that he and a group of Saudis have developed this game. He said, "It is just a game for entertainment; it doesn't save the answers, and thus there's no abuse of one's privacy."
