- Air India will issue written warnings to those passengers whose behaviour threatens the safety of co-passengers, crew, or the flight.
- If even after the written warning the passenger does not behave the airline will take further action including handing over the flyer to security agencies.
After the much publicised Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad episode, the Air India has decided to change and strengthen their policy to handle unruly passengers. Soon, this airline will issue written warnings to those passengers whose behaviour threatens the safety of co-passengers, crew, or the flight.
Even after the written notice, if the unruly passenger does not behave properly then the staff will use restrainers on flights and also, the AI may hand over the passenger to security agencies on arrival, reported a leading daily.
These new steps have been taken as per the guidelines of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), and the new rules will be implemented soon, the Times of India quoted AI chairman, Ashwani Lohani, as saying.
Another senior official of Air India reportedly stated that AI already had printed warning letters issued to unruly passengers during long flights but domestic flights do not have this rule. Also, there is standard operating procedure to handle unruly passengers. However, after the recent incident, the procedure will be strengthened, and crew members will be trained on it.
