Fresh infections crossed 27,000 for the first time, the third record high in daily numbers in the past three days.

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 case count crossed the eight lakh-mark on Saturday with yet another highest single-day spike of 27,114 new cases in the last 24 hours.

As many as 519 deaths were reported during this period.

The total number of positive cases in the country stands at 8,20,916, including 2,83,407 active cases, 5,15,386 cured/discharged/migrated and 22,123 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With as many as 2,38,461 COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state, followed by Tamil Nadu (1,30,261) and Delhi (1,09,140).

With 7,862 new cases, Maharashtra on Friday witnessed its highest ever single day record in fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the state burden to 2.38 lakh. Mumbai with 1,337 new cases has till now reported 90,461 infections. With 226 deaths registered on Friday, the toll in the state stands at 9,893. In Mumbai, which saw 73 more people succumbing to the virus, the toll is 5,205.

Tamil Nadu recorded 3,680 positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the state tally to 1,30,261. Among these, Chennai reported 1205 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 74,969.

Tamil Nadu recorded 64 deaths on Friday, putting the state toll at 1829. At least 57 of them had succumbed due to comorbidities.

Meanwhile, 1,13,07,002 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till July 10. Out of these 2,82,511 samples were tested yesterday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
