Civil Services (Main) Examination 2020: UPSC releases marks of recommended candidates
The result of the Civil Services Examination was declared on September 24. The UPSC released a list of 761 candidates who had been recommended for appointment.

The all-India topper is Subham Kumar (roll number 1519294) who scored 1054 marks followed by Jagrati Awasthi (Roll number 0415262) with 1052 marks and Ankita Jain (Roll number 0813490) with 1051 marks.
There are two Backward Class candidates in the top 10 -- Mamata Yadav (Roll number 0829179) who scored a total of 1042 marks and Praveen Kumar (Roll number 0849107) with 1041 marks.
The top 20 list also includes an equal proportion of male and female candidates.
The result of the Civil Services Examination was announced on September 24 following which the UPSC released a list of 761 candidates who had been recommended for appointment. The candidature of 151 candidates has been kept provisional by the UPSC.
Reserve List is not a waiting list
Meanwhile, the UPSC has also sought to dispel misinformation being circulated on social media about the Reserve List in Civil Services Examinations.
The UPSC clarified that for Civil Services Examination, it recommended candidates belonging to different categories for their appointments in different services.
The UPSC noted that while declaring the Main result, the number of recommended candidates under the General (unreserved) category is reduced by the total number of candidates belonging to SC/ST, OBCs and the Economically Weaker Sections who acquire the merit at or above the general qualifying standard without availing any concession/relaxation.
Along with the recommended candidates' list, the UPSC also draws up a Reserve List of general and reserved categories ranking below the last recommended candidate in the merit order under each of the categories for subsequent recommendation after the candidates recommended after the Main result are allocated services.
According to the UPSC, this is an established practice of giving fair treatment to reserved category candidates that enables them to choose a service of higher preference based on their reserved status.
It further reiterated that the Reserve List is not a waiting list. In fact, all candidates, who are recommended from the Reserve List, are placed en-bloc below the last recommended candidate in the merit position in each category of the Main result of the examination.
