In fact, Gen James C McConville will be arriving just days after Afghan Army Chief Gen Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai's visit to New Delhi.
Ahmadzai's visit will also coincide with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's first India tour since taking charge under the Joe Biden administration in January.
US President Biden had announced that the US and the NATO troops will withdraw from Afghanistan by September 11 this year. Almost 95 per cent of soldiers have vacated the war-torn country.
Two months ago, Indian Army chief Gen MM Naravane and his US counterpart had a telephonic discussion on ways to enhance bilateral military relations.
Last year, the two countries had signed the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement. The agreement allows the expansion of geospatial information sharing between the armed forces of the two countries.
