The first batch of 100 women cadets in the Corps of Military Police in its rank of other than officers will be inducted into the Indian Army on May 8.

These women cadets are in their advanced stage of training at Bengaluru-based CMP Centre & School.

Having begun their 61-week training on January 6 last year, these cadets will be recruited as Lance Naik and would be deployed in 11 units of the Indian Army.

Earlier, the Indian Army had only women officers in selected streams, including medical, education, communication among others.

Recently, the Indian Army had conducted a women's recruitment rally where more than 4000 women had applied to be part of the CMP.

As per the government's plan,  a total of 1,700 women military police will be inducted over a period of 17 years, and the first batch of 100 women military police trainees had reported to the CMP Centre and School in Bengaluru in January 2020.

The training of the first batch of women soldiers comprises basic military and advanced provost training.

During their training, the women soldiers have had the same terms and conditions as applicable to their male counterparts. Once they are inducted into the force, 60 per cent of cadets will be deployed in the peace areas while remaining in the field.

They will be mainly deployed for searching, frisking of women at check posts, cordon and search operations, crowd control dusting disaster management and will also aid the civil administration during the need.
