BJP leaders demand video footage of CM Mamata Banerjee being injured in Nandigram
The BJP approached the Election Commission demanding an independent inquiry into the incident in which TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee got injured.
BJP representatives met three election commissioners at the commission's headquarters in Delhi on Friday (March 12) evening. They also demanded the appointment of a special observer for Nandigram.
Railway Minister Piyush Goel led the delegation. Member of the delegation MP Swapan Dasgupta said, “The footage of the Chief Minister being injured in Nandigram should be with the commission. Once a candidate files nomination, the poll panel maintains a visual record of his public engagements.”
The BJP also demanded that special observers be appointed for the Nandigram Assembly seat from where Banerjee is contesting against her protege-turned-adversary the BJP's Suvendu Adhikari.
Besides, the BJP has complained to the commission that TMC leaders are sitting as administrators in various municipalities in the state. They are not allowing the BJP to put up banners and hoardings for propaganda. As a result, the TMC leaders are carrying out unilateral propaganda in the urban areas.
The BJP has demanded immediate action against the administrators appointed by the state government.
Earlier in the day, a TMC delegation met the Election Commission and demanded a high-level probe into the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram and claimed it was not an "unfortunate incident", but a conspiracy.
