The total case tally stands at 54,00,620 in the country including 10,10,824 active cases, 43,03,044 cured/discharged/migrated and 86,752 deaths.
In the past seven days alone, India has recorded 647,394 coronavirus cases.
The worst-hit states are Maharashtra (1,167,496) Andhra Pradesh (608,000), Tamil Nadu (525,000), Karnataka (500,000), and UP (336,000).
Maharashtra which is most affected by the pandemic recorded 21,656 news cases. Delhi recorded 4,127 fresh coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 238,000.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6,36,61,060 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to September 19, of these 12,06,806 were tested yesterday.
On Friday, a little over 8.8 lakh samples were tested for the coronavirus across India, a drop of more than 2.5 lakh (nearly 23%) over the past two days, according to official data quoted by covid19india.org, a website tracking the pandemic in the country.
India has overtaken the United States to register the highest number of COVID-19 recoveries in the world, informed the Union health ministry today. The total recoveries in the country crossed 42 lakh.
