Some films leave you shocked; some films leave you depressed, and then there are films that leave you psychologically disturbed. Violence, incest, crime and bloodshed is what these films have to offer. Let’s take a look at 9 such movies which are intolerably insane, and its in your best interest to avoid watching them.

Bandit Queen: This stark and gory depiction of what happened to Phoolan Devi in real life is shocking and deeply disturbing. And to imagine that Phoolan must have been through a lot more in real life shakes you up from within.
Ugly: Nothing prepares you for the gore and violence the movie offers. The film is unapologetically brutal in its content and picturisation. But the fear of the unknown is what keeps us glued to the screen.
Gangaajal: The biggest highlight and the biggest weakness of the film is its hard etched and disturbing plot. It’s one thing to know about the Bhagalpur blinding incident and totally different to actually see it happening onscreen. The violence, incest, bloodshed remains in your mind for a very long period of time.
Talvar: Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is based on Noida double murder case 2008 where a teenage girl was brutally murdered along with the domestic help and her parents were convicted of murder. The thought that the two people (parents), who are behind the bars and might actually be innocent is trembling and utterly disturbing. The floating theories of incest, wife swapping, honour killing in the film are quite distressing. And, the sheer helplessness of two people who fail to prove their innocence and the vulnerability of our judicial system is alarming, to say the least.
Gulaal: This twisted tale of love, politics and relationships is something you don’t get to watch in Bollywood films often. The film is everything you just don’t expect it to be. The film brilliantly deals with the complexity of relationships; the various layers of power, love and politics. The end is not something everyone can deal with. It leaves you shocked and disturbed.
Hostel: Inspired by ‘Saw’, the film revolves around the concept of torture and physical agony. Certainly, not for the weak hearted.
Saw: The thriller which ranges between being a thriller and a horror film, has garnered mixed response for it’s horrific content and bloodbath. This twisted and mind intriguing plot keeps you glued to the screen even though you despise the film with each passing moment.
Antichrist: There’s no way you can watch the film till the end. And somehow, even if you manage, the film will leave you emotionally drained and mentally shattered. The plot is based on the life of a couple who lose their only child at a very young age. The gruesome mayhem that begins soon after the couple loses their child is something that crawls into your skin. It’s gory content and violent sexual scenes might actually leave you depressed and disturbed for a very long period of time.
Requiem for a Dream: Starring Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly, the film reflects the brutal and harsh reality of drug addicts. The delusion and desperation that each character in the film goes through leaves you shaken. The agonizing and grim reality of drug abuse is something that sticks with you long after you’ve watched the film.
