11 people dead but Diwakar Travels gets clean chit HC sees red over the verdict

Diwakar Travels belonging to the family of Telugu Desam Party MP JC Diwakar Reddy, who was recently criticised for his ‘unruly’ behaviour with IndiGo staff has been given a clean chit in the accident case which took 11 lives.

The Transport and Labour departments of the Andhra Pradesh government had recently given a clean chit to Diwakar Travels in the accident case. But now, the High Court has openly expressed its dissatisfaction about the verdict, and a division bench of the High Court has granted three weeks’ time to the state to file a detailed counter affidavit on the matter.

“How could the authorities give a clean chit to Diwakar Travels bus which met with an accident at Moolapadu village in Penuganchiprolu Mandal of Krishna district on Feb 28, wherein 11 people lost their lives, without even knowing that the ill-fated bus was not registered under the relevant Act either in Telangana or AP state?” the court asked the state government, stated a report in the Indian Express.

The bench comprised of acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice T Rajani. Public Interest Litigation was filed by KV Subba Reddy who sought action against the authorities concerned for the loss of 11 lives in the accident involving a bus of Diwakar Travels.
