Rechristened as 'Parashurama', the vintage Dakota aircraft participated during the 13th edition of Aero India show at Yelahanka Air Force station in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

With its manoeuvring capability, the Dakota left the spectators spellbound when it flew over the Yelahanka airbase.

During the India-Pakistan war in 1947-48, the aircraft was used to airdrop the troops in Srinagar and saved it from Pakistan. It also helped in liberating Bangladesh in 1971.

The vintage aircraft was obtained from scrap in 2011 and was restored to flying condition in the United Kingdom by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP National Spokesperson Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

He gifted the revived vintage aircraft to the Indian Air Force.
