Punjab PUBG streamer and YouTuber Paras Singh, who in one of his videos posted on Sunday said Arunachal Pradesh was part of China and called former Union minister and sitting Congress legislator from Pasighat West in the state Ninong Ering as “non-Indian”, has been arrested.

A 21-year-old identified as Paras Singh, a resident of Janakpuri area in Ludhiana — runs two YouTube channels ‘Paras Official’ and ‘Tech Guru Hindi’ and on Tuesday was apprehended in Ludhiana by the Punjab Police.

“A non-bailable warrant against the accused was issued by an Itanagar court. We have information from the Punjab Police that they have apprehended him,” said RP Upadhyaya, Director General Police, Arunachal Pradesh. “Our team has reached Ludhiana and will probably be bringing him to Arunachal Pradesh.”

Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal said, “We have taken him into preventive custody after receiving request from Arunachal police. Their team is awaited to take his custody.”

He was also charged with inciting ill will and hatred towards the people of the northeastern state.

The team will produce 25-year-old Paras Singh before the court seeking five-day transit remand so that he can be brought to the state.

Paras Singh, who goes by the name 'Paras Official' on his YouTube channel, had in a video posted on Sunday termed Congress MLA Ninong Ering a non-Indian and claimed the "state was a part of China", sparking furore among Arunchalees as well as people from other parts of the country.

Paras made the comments in the context of Ering’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a ban on a game called ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’.

The video caused widespread outrage in Arunachal Pradesh, with people from various parts of the state, including Ering himself, filing complaints.

Following the widespread outrage, Paras posted an apology on May 23. “Yesterday, I uploaded a video in which I said something wrong and am very sorry for that. I have deleted that portion from the video. I made a mistake and I will be careful in the future… But it’s my mistake. I apologise to all those who got offended. I regret this and am very sorry”.

Union minister of state Kiren Rijiju in his tweet informed, “Punjab Police searched & taken Paras Singh under custody. Arunachal Pradesh Police team is reaching Punjab. I’ve spoken to Police Commissioner of Ludhiana for urgent judicial process for transit remand as it’s inter-state arrest so that he can be brought to Arunachal Pradesh.”

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma registered a strong protest against the racial slur. He tweeted, “NE stands united & condemn comments by Mr Paras Singh. We stand in solidarity with Arunachal which is an integral part of India. Racist insinuations by Paras to the people of Arunachal must be taken to task.”
