The Mumbai Police has submitted a remand note in a magistrate's court in Mumbai in connection with the fake Television Rating Points scam case in which it accused Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami of paying off senior officials of TV rating agency BARC, including its former CEO Partho Dasgupta, to manipulate the channel's TRP.
The Mumbai Police has submitted a remand note in a magistrate's court in Mumbai in connection with the fake TRP scam case in which it accused Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami of paying off senior officials of TV rating agency BARC, including its former CEO Partho Dasgupta, to manipulate the channel's TRP.
Naming "Republic owners" as an accused, the remand note claims that he and other accused in the case conspired to illegally increase the TRPs of Republic Bharat Hindi news channel and Republic TV English news channel.
Sachin Vaze, the assistant police inspector investigating the case, said that they had a handwritten statement of Partho Dasgupta where he has confessed to receiving kickbacks from Arnab Goswami to manipulate TRPs.
The "handwritten statement" also reportedly mentions about payments made by Arnab Goswami personally to Dasgupta many times.
The remand note came days after a Mumbai Police press conference where it claimed that TRP data was manipulated by ex-officials of the BARC to dislodge Times Now from the number one slot to favour Republic TV.
A response from Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami is awaited.
