Supreme Court has agreed to the Centre's plea seeking to combine all petitions seeking content regulation on OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hotstar filed before various high courts.

Based on a plea filed by the Law Ministry and Information and Broadcasting ministry, the Apex court issued notices to petitioners who have filed petitions in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Madhya Pradesh High Court and Allahabad High Court earlier this year.

The Centre also filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that there will be a firm check on content that 40 OTT platforms identified by it are broadcasting.

The government also informed the court that it had recently come out with a grievance redressal system for OTT platforms and digital news media portals.

The I&B ministry noted that the need for such a system arose after it received various complaints from lawmakers and citizens on the nature of the content being aired through OTT platforms.

The Supreme Court is expected to take up the hearing in the case next on April 12.
