The Supreme Court refused to entertain the plea of former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh seeking CBI investigation in the alleged corrupt malpractices of Anil Deshmukh and asked him to approach the Bombay High Court.

The Supreme Court said that the allegations levelled by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh are very serious. The top court also asked senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Singh, as to why he is not approaching Bombay High Court for seeking CBI probe.

The Supreme Court also asked former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh as to why he has not made Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh a party in his petition as the allegations are levelled against him.

It’s unfortunate that the Supreme Court’s judgement on police reform has not been implemented, says the Supreme Court adding that the issue of police reforms props up only when some political situation explodes.

Eventually, Param Bir Singh withdrew his plea against state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh from the Supreme Court and said he will approach the Bombay High Court. "Liberty to approach the High Court granted," the Supreme Court said in its order.

He raised apprehension that crucial evidence in the form of CCTV footage may be destroyed so he requested the top court to direct HC to hear his petition tomorrow itself. SC, however, refused to issue any such directions.

Singh, who was shunted out as Mumbai Police Commissioner in the wake of Antilia bomb scare case, has also challenged the Government's Order transferring him from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner.

The cop's explosive letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackarey raising allegations against Deshmukh, which found its way to the press on Saturday, has put the Maha Vikas Agadi government in a spot.
