As the vaccination drive picks up pace and the downward trend continues for fresh Covid-19 cases in India, schools across various states resumed physical classes with Covid safety protocols.

With SOPs in place to ensure the safety of students which include staggered lunch breaks, minimum seating capacity (50%) in class, masking and sanitization protocols, etc, states including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and many more reopened today (September 1).

As experts are of the opinion that attendance should not be made mandatory, most states have made attendance voluntary.

While Tamil Nadu reopened schools only for classes 9-12; Delhi and Rajasthan allowed physical classes for 9-12 students along with colleges, universities, and coaching institutes.

However, some institutions across states, have chosen to adopt a wait-and-watch approach and have decided to call children for physical classroom studies only after a few weeks.

Most Education Departments have said that students will not be forced to attend schools and if parents are unwilling to send their children to school, the student can continue with online classes. In cases of such students, teachers have been asked to monitor the progress of every student, studying through online and offline classes.

Meanwhile, states like Haryana and Madhya Pradesh have reopened schools for classes 4 and 5 from September 1 with prior written permission of their parents.

With all Covid protocols in place, the MP government reopened schools for classes 6 to 12 with 50% capacity, while the Haryana government reopened primary schools for Classes 4 and 5 from September 1.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya directed states to vaccinate all school teachers across India on priority basis before the National Teachers Day on September 5.
