Additional Sessions Court Judge Sandeep Garg agreed with the prosecution's contention that no anticipatory bail could be granted to influential people like Kalra who could potentially tamper with evidence.
A Delhi court has rejected anticipatory bail for businessman Navneet Kalra who has been accused of hoarding and black marketing oxygen concentrators in the midst of the Covid-91 pandemic.
Additional Sessions Court Judge Sandeep Garg agreed with the prosecution's contention that no anticipatory bail could be granted to influential people like Kalra who could potentially tamper with evidence.
The Delhi Police had contended that the investigation was at a very early stage and that Kalra's custodial interrogation was imperative to further unearth his connections with other stakeholders.
The police accused Kalra and other co-accused of hatching a conspiracy to wrongfully make money by inducing the people to buy oxygen concentrators at an exorbitant rate' amid the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
Kalra allegedly convinced his customers that he was selling them premium-grade concentrators made in Germany when, in fact, he was importing cheaper devices from China.
The prosecution citing laboratory test results informed the court that the concentrators were of poor quality and were also malfunctioning.
Kalra, however, denied all charges and that claimed that the devices were properly imported. As for the high cost, he reportedly blamed government authorities for not fixing a ceiling price for the machines.Â
Kalra has been absconding ever since the Delhi Police raided his properties last week, including the Khan Chacha restaurant in Khan Market.
