In view of the worsening Covid-19 situation, the Karnataka government has announced a 14-day lockdown in the state.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that essential commodities to run from 6 am to 10 am for the public .

"Covid curfew to be implemented in the state from tomorrow 9 pm for the next 14 days. Essential services allowed between 6-10 am. After 10 am shops remain closed. Only construction, manufacturing and agriculture sectors allowed," Yediyurappa said.

Buses and Metro service suspended

CM also stressed that except goods, transport services including KSRTC, BMTC, Metro Rail service and all private transport services will be suspended. 

Relaxation has been given to the construction industry, manufacturing industry however, the garment industry will have to remain closed. 

As local polls were scheduled to take place, CM said all polls will be postponed and the Election Commission will be briefed about. 

The state border will be sealed and no inter-state buses will be allowed. 

Good news for Tipplers

As bars and restaurants contribute to the state's exchequer, only parcel service has been allowed. 

Anticipating shutdown, liquor lovers have already lined up to stock bottles at home.

Free vaccination for people between 18-45 years 

Vaccination will be free for all those getting vaccinated between 18 to 45 years, said CM Yediyurappa. 

Separate guidelines for the lockdown will be issued by the government later in the day. Since the Covid cases were increasing in Karnataka and Bengaluru city, few members of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), which held a meeting on April 24, had advised the government to impose a two-week lockdown.
