Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will resign from the post on Monday.

Yediyurappa said, "I have decided to resign. I will meet the Governor after lunch."

An emotional Yediyurappa said he will take part in the celebration of two years of his government, have lunch and then proceed to Raj Bhawan to tender his resignation.

Ahead of resigning, Yediyurappa said that people had lost their trust in the ruling BJP and that he has a debt to pay back to the people of the state.

Urging his party MLAs to work harder, Yediyurappa said they should work harder and in a clean honest way.

The 78-year-old Lingayat strongman further said: "Vajpayee wanted me to be a minister at the Centre. But I told him I must remain in Karnataka. I did not want to go to Delhi, I wanted to strengthen the party in the state. Today, the BJP is in power in the state today. People of Shikaripura people have made me an MLA seven times. People did not leave my hand."

The development comes a day after BJP National President JP Nadda lauded Yediyurappa's work and administration, and stated that there was no 'confusion or commotion'.

Reacting to this development, Yedidurappa had on Sunday said that that he would continue if the high command tells him to do so or else he would resign and work to strengthen the party.

Sources say the high command is close to deciding on Yediyurappa's successor.

Yediyurappa's decision to resign comes at a time when the state is reeling under flash floods in coastal and north Karnataka.
