Remembering the soldiers and people who lost their lives in fighting terrorists, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar urged the global community not to compromise with such evil.

Jaishankar, while addressing the high-level United Nations Security Council briefing on threats to international peace and security, said that India has had more than its fair share of challenges and casualties.

Listing acts of terror like the 2008 Mumbai attack, the 2016 Pathankot Airbase attack and the 2019 Pulwama bombing, Jaishankar reminded the world that they should never compromise with this evil (terrorism).

Talking about terrorism he said India recognises terrorism cannot be, should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group.

Terrorism must be condemned in all its manifestations, he said, adding that there cannot be any justification, regardless of motivations.

Without taking Pakistan's name, the minister said that there are some nations that undermined or subvert the collective resolve to fight terrorism.

This cannot be allowed, said Jaishankar.

Talking about the digital currency being used by terror organisations, Jaishankar said financial resource mobilisation of ISIS has become more robust.

Killings are now being rewarded with Bitcoins, the External Affairs Minister said.

On the ongoing situation in Afghanistan in the wake of the collapse of elected government, Jaishankar said, "ISIL-Khorasan (ISIL-K) has become more energetic and is constantly seeking to expand its footprint in our own immediate neighbourhood."

Global concerns with regard to international and regional security have risen in the wake of the events unfolding in Afghanistan.

He further said that this growing anxiety was justified because of the increased activities of the proscribed Haqqani Network.

Whether it is India or Afghanistan, the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaisha-e-Mohammad continue to function with impunity and encouragement, he added.

Jaishankar underlined that it was essential for the world to display zero tolerance of terrorism without any double standards or distinction.
