Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi 2021, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Wednesday announced a ban on celebrations at public places in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an order issued on Tuesday, the DDMA said that district magistrates and deputy commissioners of police will ensure that idols of Lord Ganesha are not set up in a tent or pandal. Further, it should be ensured that crowds do not gather at any religious or social place.

Permission will also not be granted for any procession, it said.

The DDMA has advised people to celebrate the festival at home this year with the threat of Covid-19 third wave looming large.

Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated this month and considering the prevailing restrictions on gatherings and congregations and the present situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been decided that the celebrations of the festival may not be allowed in public places, the order stated.

Other states too have issued guidelines and protocols to be followed during Ganesh Chaturthi.

The Tamil Nadu government announced that small temples might be open on Chaturthi and worshippers may place Ganesha statues outside small temples.

However, the state government would be in charge of immersing idols in bodies of water. Also, no processions will be allowed.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has allowed Ganesha festival celebrations for 5 days. Only selected streets and chosen locations are allowed to keep Ganesha idol with permission in public.

However, there is a ban on gathering of public for poojas. Not more than 20 members were allowed to attend pooja.
