Amid the ongoing political crisis in the strife-torn nation, the Centre has called an all-party meeting at 11 am on August 26 to discuss the catastrophe in Afghanistan.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi will organise the briefing to be done by the MEA.

“In view of developments in Afghanistan, PM @narendramodi has instructed that MEA brief Floor Leaders of political parties. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs @JoshiPralhad will be intimating further details,” Dr S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister tweeted.

The Ministry of External Affairs will brief the floor leaders of political parties on the recent developments in the war-ravaged country, where the Taliban has captured power and also the status of the evacuation of Indians and Afghan refugees.

As India continues to evacuate nationals from Afghanistan besides arranging evacuation of Hindu and Sikh minorities from the war-torn nation, Joshi will send out invites to all parties.

Presently, an estimate of around 400 Indians is roughly said to be present in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Afghan refugees in India staged a protest in front of office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Delhi and sought a resettlement option to a third country.

The Afghans are demanding refugee status/cards for all Afghans, resettlement option to a third country, and security from UNHCR and the Indian government, reported ANI.

"There are more than 21,000 Afghan refugees in India. There is no reason to return to Afghanistan now," Ahmad Zhia Ghani, head of the Afghan community in India was quoted by news agency ANI.

On the other hand, the Taliban has sent out a warning that states any delay in the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan will have consequences for the United States, and the date set -- August 31 -- is the Taliban's red line. Earlier, US President Joe Biden had said his troops could stay on in Kabul after August 31 to help evacuate civilians and refugees.
