18-year-old Yahoo Messenger to be put to rest on August 5
Â
Online giant Yahoo has decided to shut down the popular Yahoo Messenger in a bid to concentrate more on streamlining its business globally.
Â
"We outlined a plan for streamlining the business and focusing on our strengths across seven core consumer products: Mail, Search, Tumblr, News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyles," read a press release by the tech major. Â Â
Â
However, to continue and build on the "legacy" of the old messenger, the company has planned to launch a new Yahoo Messenger after the existing one is rolled out on June 5.
Â
Â
The revamp is expected to bring users an incredibly fast, beautiful and smart way to send (and un-send) messages, photos and animated GIFs in 1-on-1 and group conversations.
Â
The new version of Yahoo Messenger is redesigned with brand-new features. It's available for Android, iPhone, and on the web via your browser, said a Yahoo.
Â
The company has requested users to create a backup of their existing messenger data and port it to the new (yet to be launched) Yahoo messenger.
