The Indian hockey team had no relief from its tedious outing in the continuing Tokyo Olympics. The Indian women team was involved in its group stage encounter against Germany, as the former went down 0-2 despite putting up a spirited show on Monday.

Germany was ahead in the opening quarter as Nike Lorenz put its ahead in the 12th minute through a penalty corner. Although Germany won a couple of more penalty corners, the Indian defence was strong enough to deny it, as the former maintained its lead at half-time.

The following quarter saw India won its first PC, but to no avail, while a penalty stroke Gurjit Kaur was saved by the German goalkeeper. While a PC for Germany was also denied by India earlier in the quarter, Anne Schröder doubled its lead in the 35th minute.

As the Indians went all-out attack in the final quarter, the Germans switched to defensive mode. While Germany had another PC denied,  it managed to hold on to the relentless Indian attack until the end to walk away with the win.

Overall, India did better than its 1-5 loss to the Netherlands but seemingly wasted many opportunities. It would now face off against Great Britain on Wednesday in what could tentatively be its do-or-die game.
