India lost to West Indies in the only T20 played at Kingston on Sunday. It was a bad day on the field for Kohli boys even though they had put up decent 190 runs in first innings. West Indies won by 9 wickets with nine balls to spare, hammering almost all Indian bowlers in second innings.

It was not only the bowlers who should be blamed for India’s loss. There were other few reasons which we have to look at. Here are five reasons why India lost:

Spinners failing to ‘turn’ the match: The magic wrist of spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin was not present in the match. The run rate of Jadeja and Ashwin was 11.71 and 9.75 respectively, without sealing a single wicket. This troubled the Indian bowling segment who were not able to turn the match at right time.

Absence of Pandya: The Indian team did not have Hardik Pandya as he was injured just before the game. The middle order was not strong enough except Dinesh Karthik who scored 48 runs with a strike rate of 165.52. It was one of the reasons why India fell short of around 30 runs which was easily attainable if Pandya was available.

No catch no match: As the saying goes – ‘Catches win matches,’ India did not grab the opportunity of getting out West Indies opener Evin Lewis. Mohammed Shami and DK dropped a chance of sending off Lewis and thus gave two lives for West Indies.

“Even in the first innings, we could have added 25-30 extra. We were on course for 230. And in the field as well, we dropped a few chances and if you don’t grab them you don’t deserve to win,” Kohli said.

Brathwaite’s incentive of presenting half of his match fee: Yes, you heard it right. West Indies captain did not bother to loose half of his pay to make sure his team wins the T20 match. He had said to his men that he would present half of his match fee for whoever goes and scores a fifty.

“Very happy. Yesterday, we asked for the batters to go out and express themselves. I gave them the captain’s incentive, whoever goes and gets a fifty gets half my match fee. We wanted to put smiles on the faces of the fans and that’s what we come back to do,” Brathwaite said.

This could have been a motivational factor for Lewis to express himself and allow his bat to talk during his innings.

King Kohli’s depart - India stalls it’s good start: India was in a great start until 5.2 overs of first innings when they had scored 64 runs without loosing any wicket. But Kesrick Williams gave a shocker for India by sending Kolhi and Dhawan in the sixth over of the match.

These two wickets demanded Indian’s play sensibly for the next remaining 14 overs of the match.
