Telangana has been in news lately, all for the wrong reasons. It all started with the lavish Rs 50-crore home built by the State chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, it was soon followed by his Rs 5-crore donations to the deities.
It is now reported that KCR government has also sanctioned Rs 120-crore for his MLAs to build palatial homes in their respective constituencies.
The fund is being allocated under the pretext of building party camp offices. According to reports, the first home is ready at Parkal MLA constituency and will be inaugurated on March 2.
The two-storey homes will have 3 bedrooms, drawing hall, dining hall, kitchen, store room, puja room and bathrooms on the first floor.
The lower floors will be for official purposes. There is conference hall, MLA office, VVIP lounge, workers hall, and waiting room for the public.
The government also has sanctioned another Rs 100 crore for building new residential quarters for MLAs at Hyderguda in Hyderabad as well.
The Telangana Legislators are currently the highest paid politicians in the country after Assembly approved the pay hike bill in 2016. The KCR government MLAs get a monthly salary up by 163% to Rs 2.5 lakhs per month.
