Debit card fraud Techie nabbed

Initially, the police found it difficult to find a clue as to what went wrong. The sleuths undertook the laborious task of surfing through surveillance cameras footage at various ATM centres around the area. They also put the employees of the private bank under the scanner. But later, to the surprise of all, the smart thief turned out to be a colleague of the techies!

Explaining the quirky modus operandi of Twinkle Arora, a Haryana native who was caught for swindling  ₹1.5 lakh from his friends, the police said that he made online purchases and withdrew money from various accounts in a very simple way. First, he would manage to lift ATM cards from his co-workers and make online purchases before placing it back in their wallets.  Arora would then contact the bank over the phone pretending that his card was blocked and would request for a new PIN number. Once he received the new PIN,  he would make regular transactions with it.

Arora joined a firm at Technopark, the biggest Technopolis in Kerala, two months back and had similar cases filed against him in Haryana, the police said. The techie will be produced before the court on Thursday.
