Anushka Sharma is among those few actresses in the Hindi film industry who has  shared screen space with all three Khans of Bollywood. She had also acted with newer actors of her generation including Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Imran Khan among others.

Last week, several media reports were out that Anushka's alleged boyfriend cricketer Virat Kohli has produced her upcoming movie Phillauri, the second movie from the actress’ home production Clean Slate Films. Anushka's debut as a producer was met with high praise during the release of NH10 in 2015, and recently, Phillauri co-star singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh also praised her stating that she has the “guts to produce unconventional movies”.

Is it so difficult to believe that a female actor in Bollywood is also doing successfully on her own and as a film producer that people chose to speculate that she could not have done it on her own?

A few reports also mentioned, “Anushka Sharma has been spotted multiple times in the cricket stadium, cheering Kohli. Now, for possibly the first time, the cricketer is doing his bit to return the favour. In fact, he’s going a step further.”

Such sexist news pulls down the achievement and hard work of any woman who has achieved her success on her own capability. The actress took to Facebook to rubbish these claims and also demanding more accountability from the media and to stop all those who think women in movies can’t take charge of their career.

We fully stand by Anushka and feel it is high time society and media should accept that a woman can do something big without a man's help physically or financially. Anushka is in no way inferior to Virat and for that matter, both their achievements are in separate spheres.

Previously also, when the media chose to question some other successful actresses and pointed out the contribution of their boyfriends or significant others in their success, the women spoke out on social media and expressing their views and anger against the rumours and misleading reports about them. Last year, actress Nargis Fakhri spoke out against reports that stated that her boyfriend Uday Chopra had supported her career and finances during their relationship. Nargis rubbished the news saying that, “I am an independent, educated woman, I make my own money, take care of my mother, and I am single so I can do whatever I want, taking no one’s permission and that is the best part.” She also added, “I have my own assets, I don’t need anyone else’s.”

Another recent incident that we would like to highlight is that of Tamil actress Trisha, who was attacked and targeted by pro-jallikattu groups for posting comments against the bull taming sport on social media. Soon she cleared the air by posting, "I'm a proud Tamilian by birth, and I believe and respect the Tamil culture and tradition and I will never go against the sentiments of my own people who have been instrumental in my growth and stature." They only targeted her because she was involved with PETA.

Whether you are a celeb or an ordinary woman, social media can give you one big platform to express yourself views and complaints about anything under the sun. Today if you have to be heard you need not stage protests or shout from the rooftops, all you need is the power of the keyboard. Pen down your thoughts, raise your voices and create a revolution on social media, the world’s widest platform.
