Along with Metro suburban train also planned for Kempegowda International airport Bengaluru

The Centre and State government are envisaging a suburban train connection from Nagawara to Kempegowda International Airport, along with Metro. The trains will ply between Nagawara and airport via Yeshwanthapura and Yelahanka.  A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting at the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority office on Thursday chaired by Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda and Urban Development Minister KJ George, reports Kannada Prabha.

Speaking after the meeting, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda said the suburban train connection between Nagwara and airport has been approved by both the State government. After obtaining approval from the Railway Ministry, the Rights Company will prepare the feasibility report. The State government has agreed to bear the expenses of the project. A meeting will be held with the Union Minister for Railways within 15 days and hope to start the project at the earliest, he said.

Urban Development Minister KJ George emphasised at the meeting that there is a need to lay new tracks for the new suburban trains as the existing tracks are over loaded.  There is too much traffic on the existing tracks. Running the suburban trains on the same tracks will hinder the interstate trains also. Hence separate tracks must be laid for suburban trains. This has been mentioned in the draft SPV submitted to the railway ministry. He hoped that the project cost will be a 50:50 share basis between Centre and State.

MP PC Mohan, City Land Transport Corporation commissioner Darpan Jain, BMRCL MD Pradeep Singh Kharola and North Eastern Railway Bengaluru Division DRM RS Saxena were present.
