4.30 PM: KC Venugopal assures to address concerns over CWC; Calls Chennithala a 'national leader'

AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, who is now in Alappuzha, responded to questions over Ramesh Chennithala's exclusion from the Congress Working Committee (CWC) by addressing the media that the Congress has the capacity to effectively resolve the issues internally. 

"Ramesh Chennithala is not only the Kerala leader of the party, he is also one of the important leaders of Congress in India. If he has any difficulty (in connection with the CWC list), the party leadership will not hesitate to solve it," Venugopal said.

As part of Onam celebration, the KTDC has organised a 'payasam' mela at Mascot Hotel and Grand Chaitram Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram from  August 21 to August 29. The counter will be open from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm every day.


2.30 PM: Will apologize if allegations against Veena Vijayan are proven false, says Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan

Regarding his accusations against Veena T, daughter of the chief minister, Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan has accepted CPM leader A K Balan's challenge. If Veena is found not guilty of the tax evasion claims made against her by Mathew, he would apologise to her.


12.44 PM: Maritime Board CEO fired who testified Ports Minister office's intervention in boat registration

The Kerala Maritime Board's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who testified to the police that the State Minister for Ports' office intervened in registering a boat involved in a serious accident, has been fired. According to the CEO's statement to the police, C P Anwar Sadat, an additional private secretary to Ports Minister Ahammed Devarkovil, called him and asked him to take into consideration the application for vessel registration that boat owner Nassar had submitted. Salim's testimony also claims that he approved moving forward with the registration process for Nassar's boat not because of the call from the additional private secretary to the Minister, but rather because it was "legally feasible".


12.15 PM: Actress attack case: HC dismisses Dileep's petition seeking to adjourn hearing into survivor's complaint over access of memory card

The Kerala High Court on Monday dismissed the petition moved by actor Dileep, accused in the 2017 actress assault case seeking to adjourn the hearing into the complaint of the survivor over unauthorised access to the memory card. Dileep said in his plea that the complainant had filed a new petition to delay the trial and decision in the matter.


11.00 AM: Land Conservation Act violated in construction of CPM building in Idukki; Collector yet to take action

The District Collector has not acted despite being aware of the obvious legal violation in the construction of the CPM area committee office in Santhanpara. The Collector has still not decided whether to move on the Deputy Tehsildar's recommendation to conduct contempt of court action. A NOC from the Revenue Department is required for construction work in any of the seven villages in the Devikulam taluk, according to a 2010 High Court judgement. In response to the disobedience of this order, the Deputy Tehsildar of Udumbanchola suggested that contempt of court processes be followed.


10.35 AM: Kerala government fails to meet the deadline for appointment of teachers

The administrative tribunal had asked the state government to assign the 43 college principals who were on the PSC-approved list to interim assignments two weeks prior. The final deadline date was August 17. The state administration hasn't adhered to the tribunal's instructions, though. The administration is currently preparing to submit a new petition as five of the candidates on the aforementioned list have already retired.


9.35 AM: Two women killed while crossing road after being hit by pickup van in Angamaly

A pickup van collided with two women while they were crossing a road in Angamaly. The deceased have been identified as Sheeba and Mariyam, employees of the canteen in Camco company in Athani. The accident happened on Monday at 7 am.


9.00 AM: Educational institutions to have Onam holidays from August 25

The state government has announced Onam holidays for all educational institutions, including professional colleges under Higher Education Department from August 25 to September 3. Kerala will celebrate the Onam on August 29 this year. 


8.45 AM: Finance Dept likely to probe Veena Vijayan's alleged tax evasion complaint by Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan

The Finance Department is likely to probe the allegation made by Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter, Veena, has not fulfilled her tax obligations. The Muvattupuzha MLA on Saturday alleged that Veena and her company failed to pay GST on Rs 1.72 crore received from mining firm CMRL.


8.25 AM: Forceps in stuck in stomach after C-Section: Police likely to arrest doctors, nurses of Kozhikode Medical College

The investigation team is likely to speed up the action against two doctors and nurses of the Kozhikode Medical College for the hospital's alleged negligence.  During a C-section in 2017 at the Kozhikode Medical College hospital, a pair of scissors were accidentally left inside the stomach of Harshina Malayil Kulangara, a native of Pantheerankavu, Kozhikode. After five years in 2022, it was removed from her stomach.


8.12 AM:  Kerala likely to receive rainfall for next two days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places today and tomorrow. At the same time, the IMD has informed that there will be no disruption to fishing in Kerala-Karnataka coast and Lakshadweep area.
