Depots for the Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) electric buses, which will begin operating on city roadways in early 2022, are being built in the national capital. DTC Managing Director Ashish Kundra posted two photos of the freshly constructed depots with the caption: "Depots for #electricbuses being ready in #Delhi! Public transportation is about to alter." In March, the Delhi Cabinet approved a proposal for DTC to engage 300 Low-Floor Fully Electric Air Conditioned buses under the Centre's 'Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India [FAME] Phase-II' Scheme.

DTC's Deputy Chief General Manager (Traffic & Public Relations), Ravinder Singh Minhas, told IANS that the tender for the first 300 e-buses had matured and that the city will begin receiving them in January. The buses will go a minimum of 140 kilometres on a single charge under the FAME plan. According to official sources, DTC will manage these buses, which private companies will operate. The operator will furnish the driver, and the DTC will deputise its conductor in the buses under the terms of the agreement.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot stated in August 2020 that the national capital would receive up to 2,000 electric buses by the end of 2021. However, a shortage of infrastructure was noted as the cause of the implementation delay a few months ago. Both the Delhi and Central governments are "actively" promoting greener and more sustainable modes of transportation to "better address" future environmental issues caused by climate change.

In other news, according to reports, DTC managing Director Vijay Bidhuri stated that they had instructed the schools to seek alternate arrangements. Although they are dedicated to providing buses for law enforcement operations, they have also advised security services to consider contracting private buses for routine deployments. He stated that the goal is to assist commuters, which is hampered by commitments to provide buses for rent to schools and government organisations. He asked them to look into alternative possibilities rather than relying on DTC buses.
