Hikaru No Go
There are few anime series based on board games, but plenty are based on trading card games (series like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! come to mind). One of those few is called Hikaru no Go, and it is based on the traditional Chinese board game of Go. As it follows middle schooler Hikaru as he enters the realm of professional Go players under the direction of a ghost from the Heian era, this series gives the game an intriguing and enjoyable twist. Takeshi Obata, the illustrator of Death Note, created the illustrations for this series, focusing on the shockingly competitive character of professional Go players. Catch it on Netflix.
