Rahul writes to PM: Government's failures have made national lockdown inevitable
In his letter, Rahul Gandhi alleged, "The government's hubris in declaring premature victory as the virus was exponentially spreading, has placed India in a dangerous position."
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with regard to the "Covid Tsunami that continues to ravage the country".
In his letter, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government lacked a clear and coherent Covid and vaccination strategy.
He said, "The government's hubris in declaring premature victory as the virus was exponentially spreading has placed India in a dangerous position."
"Today, the disease is growing explosively. It is on the verge of overwhelming all our systems. Government of India's failures have made another devastating national lockdown almost inevitable," the Wayanad MP said.
The Congress leader's letter comes on the day the country reported as many as 4,12,262 new positive cases in the last 24 hours -- the biggest spike in daily new cases so far.
The Congress leader called upon Prime Minister Modi to act with compassion to prevent a repeat of the suffering caused by last year's lockdown.
"The government must provide critical food and financial support to our most vulnerable people. It must be ready with a transportation strategy for those who will require it. You are concerned about the economic impact of a lockdown. Inside and outside India, the human cost of allowing this virus to continue its march unimpeded will result in many more tragic consequences for our people than any purely economic calculations your advisors are suggesting," Rahul said.
Assuring his support in the fightback against Covid-19, Rahul said that in times of crisis, various stakeholders must be taken into confidence so that all can work together to safeguard India.
