Maharashtra could well be heading towards a statewide lockdown as Coronavirus cases continue to grow day after day.

According to reports, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has instructed senior health officials and the COVID task force to prepare for restrictions similar to lockdown if people continue to violate Covid-related rules.

Chief Minister Uddhav has told officials that the proposed lockdown should have a minimum impact on the economy of the state.

While chairing a review meeting, the Chief Minister reportedly told the officials that the Coronavirus cases are rising because people are not following guidelines seriously and that because of this, strict steps like lockdown were needed to be considered.

Starting today, the state will see the reimposition of night curfew, which will begin at 8 pm and end at 7 am the next day till April 15.

During the night curfew, a gathering of five or more people will not be allowed. All public places, including gardens and beaches, will be shut between 8 pm and 7 am. Violators will be fined Rs 1000.

Other restrictions that have been introduced include a ban on social, cultural, political and religious gatherings. Not more than 50 people will be allowed during weddings and not more than 20 people will be allowed while performing last rites.
