High-level group comprising NSA Doval, Foreign Minister tracking Afghanistan developments

A high-level group, comprising National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior officials, which was set up to focus on the immediate priorities of India, is monitoring the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and international reactions.

The group also studying the resolution passed on Monday night at the United Nations Security Council, under India’s presidency for August month. 

The group had a direction from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in view of the evolving situation in Afghanistan to look after India's immediate priorities.

A source told Asianet Newsable that this group has been meeting regularly over the last few days and is seized of issues pertaining to the safe return of stranded Indians, the evacuation of Afghan nationals, especially minorities to India, and use of Afghan territory for terrorism directed against India.
 
On August 30, the United States withdrew its last troop from the war-ravaged nation. 

On Monday, over 90 nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, NATO, Italy among others, had issued a statement that they had received assurances from the Taliban that all foreign nationals and any Afghan citizen with travel authorization from other countries will not be stopped from proceeding safely to points of departure and travel outside the country.

The countries said that they would keep issuing travel documentation to designated Afghans, and expect a commitment from the Taliban that such persons can travel to their respective countries. 

India, Russia, China and Pakistan were not part of the joint statement.
