Centre approves nine new judges, including three women appointed to Supreme Court

New Delhi: The government has approved nine new judges, including three women, who have been appointed to the Supreme Court, government sources were quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
"Nine new judges, including three women, were on Thursday appointed to the Supreme Court with President Ram Nath Kovind signing their warrants of appointment," the agency report cited sources as saying.
The judges are likely to take oath on August 31.
Karnataka High Court Justice BV Nagarathna is in line to become the first woman Chief Justice of India - a milestone in the nation's history.
Among the judges for the Supreme Court elevation, PS Narasimha is also in line to become the Chief Justice, the third lawyer from the bar to occupy the top post.

Besides, among the new judges in the apex court are Justice Hema Kohli, Justice MM Sundresh, Justice CT Ravikumar, Justice Bela M Trivedi, and senior advocate and former Additional Solicitor General PS Narasimha.
Justices Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari, Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Vikram Nath are also among those appointed to the Supreme Court.
As reported earlier by Times Now, the government had forwarded nine names recommended by the Supreme Court collegium for appointment of judges in the top court to the President for final approval. A call was expected to be taken "shortly", say govt sources.
The Supreme Court, which has 25 judges against a sanctioned strength of 34, will be left with only one vacancy after the new judges are sworn in.
It is probably the first time that nine names have been recommended for the Supreme Court and all have been approved by the government.
