A mixed response is being witnessed to the 'Bharat Vyapar Bandh' on Friday with traders' bodies split over joining the nationwide shutdown call to protest against the issues related to GST and e-commerce.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for a day-long nationwide strike today in protest of the relentless rise in fuel prices as well as changes to e-way bill validities. They have also demanded the Centre conduct a review of provisions under the Goods and Services Tax (GST). CAIT has directed all commercial markets to remain shut across the country between 6 am and 8 pm today.

The All India Transporters Welfare Association (AIWTA) has also thrown its weight behind the Bharat Bandh stating that it will hold road blockades. Shortly after, several farm unions protesting against the recently passed farm laws confirmed they would also participate peacefully in the nationwide strike.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), spearheading anti-farm laws protests at Delhi borders, appealed to farmers on Thursday to peacefully participate in a 'Bharat Bandh' called by transport and trade unions on February 26.

While the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which gave the Bandh call, claimed that more than 8 crore traders belonging to over 40,000 business organisations across the country, including Delhi, will join it by shutting their commercial establishments, other traders' bodies that PTI spoke to said they have not extended support to the Bandh.
