Chennai boy sweeps Google award for improving fishermen safety
Google has recently announced a Google 'Community Impact Award' for Advay Ramesh, a 10th standard student, for his invention to improve fishermen safety and productivity.

The Community Impact Award acknowledges the developments made in the innovator’s community.

Ramesh's project which is named—FishErmen Lifeline Terminal (FELT)—is capable of improving the fishermen safety using the Standard Position Services (SPS).

"Winning the Google Community Impact Award means a lot to me, it would help me learn more and develop my idea further," said Ramesh in an interview with PTI.

Last year, Olivia Hallisey, a 16-year-old girl, was awarded in the same category for her project, 'Temperature-Independent, Portable, and Rapid Field Detection of Ebola via a Silk-Derived Lateral-Flow System.'

The device was skilled to conduct an Ebola test and giving out the result in less than 30 minutes.

It is not the first time that the wonder boy has done something out of the box. Ramesh has earlier earned a mentorship worth $10,000 for a year from the Scientific American.

Also, Ramesh is in the race of winning a scholarship worth $50,000 from Google. He is currently among the top 20 participants beating others across the world.
