Google has launched its newest mobile payment app dubbed Tez in India. It is a UPI-based app, just like government's app, and was unveiled in the presence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at an event in Delhi.
Google Tez is also offering Rs 51 to users if they invite a friend, and the person uses the app. Tez will let you invite as many friends as you want. However, there will be a limit on the amount, which will be Rs 9000 for the year up to 1 April, 2018.
Google has made the app accessible in English, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Gujarati. The UPI app uses phone number to make payments directly from bank accounts, without the need for account number, IFSC code and so on. The mobile number serves as a virtual payment address.

To get started users simply need to download the app. Please note that the number you link to the app should be the same that is linked to the bank account. Users will then have to setup a Google pin. This pin is for security and will be needed every time you open the app, but you won't need it to carry out a transaction.
For transaction, you need to link your bank account to the app. You can do so by keying in the debit card details, you will then need a bank OTP and UPI pin. The pin has to be created by users when they use the app for the first time along with the user ID. You can take a look at the .
Besides, there will be a separate business portal for online companies where businesses can get their own app to engage directly with their customers to share offers and more.
The highlight is the new Cash mode. This mode has been built to help users send money instantly without sharing any details but with audio QR. It uses audio to connect the payer and payee, according to Financial Express.
You can let Tez access your contacts, which can help if you want to send or ask money from a friend. It is being protected by Tez Shield, which is a data security platform helping detect fraud and protects user identity.
The app is available to download from Google Play Store for Android users and hasn't been launched for iOS users yet.
